Pop the top and get your spoons ready! It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for all year. National Ice Cream Month is finally here, and we’re sharing 10 fun things you can do to celebrate this sweet holiday with family and friends. Plus, don’t forget to enter our Sweetest Summer Ever Sweepstakes to keep the celebration going all summer long. You could win free ice cream for a year, a grand prize trip to Grand Hotel and more!

1. TAKE A TRIP TO YOUR LOCAL SCOOP SHOP

Nothing brings back childhood memories quite like a special trip to the local scoop shop with friends and family on a warm summer night. So, make a point to treat yourself (and the kids) to a trip down memory lane and visit your local scoop shop during National Ice Cream Month for a scoop of everyone’s favorite flavor in a fresh waffle cone. Even the smallest moments can make great memories that last a lifetime. Head over to our Scoop Locator for a list of shops that carry Hudsonville Ice Cream near you—many of which have exclusive flavors you can’t find in stores (like our fan-favorite Crunchy Munchy Peanut Butter!).

2. TRY A NEW FLAVOR

Everyone has their own favorite flavor (what’s yours?). We know it can be tempting to reach for your go-to flavor out of habit, but National Ice Cream Month is the perfect opportunity to try something new! Here at Hudsonville Ice Cream, creating creamy, delicious and exciting flavors is what we’re all about, and we’ve got more than 50 different flavors of ice cream (including seven new Dairy Free flavors) just waiting to be enjoyed. So, the next time you head to the store or visit your local scoop shop, reach for a flavor you haven’t tried before. Who knows, you might even discover a new favorite! Here’s a coupon you can print at home that’s good for $2 off any 48 oz flavor of your choice.

3. SUGGEST AN IDEA FOR A NEW FLAVOR

We’re always looking for the next great flavor and love hearing from fans who have an idea for a new ice cream. A few years ago, we launched our Flavor of Detroit contest and called on fans to help us create a flavor inspired by the city of Detroit. More recently, we expanded our search by asking ice cream lovers in Michigan to help us come up with unique ideas for our Michigan Artisan Collection, which included special small batch flavors that use locally-sourced ingredients from culinary artisans across the state. The latest flavor to make its debut as part of the collection is called Germack Honey Roasted Peanut. So send us a message, and we might just make your ice cream dreams come true.

4. COME UP WITH YOUR FAMILY’S SIGNATURE SUNDAE

It seems like just about every scoop shop has a special menu of ice cream sundaes to choose from these days—they’re pretty creative too! Why not create your own signature sundae? Gather the family around the table and create something special that incorporates everyone’s favorite flavors. Looking for some inspiration? Here are five ice cream sundae recipes we came up with. Once you’re done, be sure to share your creations with us and we might just feature it on our website.

5. PUT A COOL NEW TWIST ON FAMILY GAME NIGHT

Looking for other ways to get the family together for a night of fun? We have a few ideas! One of which includes a fun twist on family game night. All you need is a pair of dice, some Hudsonville Ice Cream and a few of your favorite sundae toppings. Determine which numbers (1-6, or 1-12 if you’re playing with a pair of dice) will be associated with each topping. You could even make one number a “switch bowls” option. Have each person take turns rolling the dice and let the fun begin! The end result? Some pretty creative ice cream sundae combinations we bet you haven’t tried before.

6. HOST AN ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Share your love of ice cream with friends and family by hosting an ice cream social for everyone to enjoy! Who wouldn’t enjoy an ice cream sundae on Sunday party (see what we did there, clever right!). Pick up a few cartons of Hudsonville Ice Cream and have everyone bring some fun toppings to share and create a sweet build-your-own-sundae bar. You could even have everything on hand to make your family’s own signature ice cream sundae for others to try.

7. SURPRISE SOMEONE SPECIAL WITH AN ICE CREAM SUNDAE KIT

Another fun way to share your love of ice cream with others is to create a special pick-me-up that includes everything needed for someone to make their own ice cream sundae—an ice cream scooper, some toppings (hello fudge sauce), and of course, ice cream. Whether it’s a special friend, a coworker, family member or neighbor, this special surprise is sure to sweeten anyone’s day.

8. MAKE A DELICIOUS DESSERT

Ice cream sundaes, sandwiches and milkshakes, oh my! There are plenty of fun ways to enjoy ice cream. And while ice cream is good all by itself, in a cone or loaded with sprinkles (lots of sprinkles), there are tons of other ice cream recipes just waiting to be enjoyed—like these super fun ice cream nachos. Our friend Gold Coast Girl created this patriotic American flag ice cream cake that’s sure to add a spark to any July celebration. These mini ice cream pies from Foxes Love Lemons using our seasonal Strawberry Shortcake and Blueberry Cobbler flavors are also a guaranteed crowd pleaser at any summer gathering. Looking for something dairy-free and vegan friendly? Check out this ice cream cookie skillet recipe from Vegetarian Ventures!

9. TURN YOUR LEMONADE STAND INTO AN ICE CREAM STAND

Lemonade stands and summer go hand-in-hand, but so does ice cream. So, why not put a fun twist on this classic activity by mashing up two summer favorites. For National Ice Cream Month, help your kids turn their lemonade stand into an ice cream stand and treat neighbors to a sweet treat.

10. EAT ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST

Sure, the real “Eat Ice Cream For Breakfast Day” might be celebrated the first Saturday in February, but National Ice Cream Month provides another great excuse to enjoy ice cream for breakfast. You can tell mom we said it was okay. After all, it is the most important meal of the day. So, feel free to skip the milk and use ice cream instead. Or, make a batch of these blueberry pancakes, infused with our Limited Edition Blueberry Cobbler ice cream.

How will you be celebrating National Ice Cream Month? Leave a comment, or send us a message. We’d love to hear your ideas.
