This summer is sure to be unlike any other! You know what we mean: We’re all staying closer to home, and when we do venture out, our favorite summer destinations look a little different because of smaller crowds and other safety measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

But never fear! You can still make this summer a season to remember. With help from a few of our friends all across the Midwest, we put together a list of five sweet and simple activities to help you make some great memories and enjoy a scoop of ice cream along the way.

1. Build Your Own Banana Split Bar

This dessert is all about making your own rules – and your own mess – with this fun take on a classic ice cream treat! Ditch the traditional flavors you might find in a banana split and take Paige’s advice – jazz it up with your favorite Hudsonville Ice Cream flavors like Strawberry Cheesecake and Extra Indulgent Crunchy Peanut Butter. Once you’ve got your ice cream ready, all that’s left is to split the bananas, add your favorite toppings and enjoy! Pro tip: If your family doesn’t love bananas, you can still dress up dessert with an ice cream tasting flight or a supersized sundae to share!

2. Engage Your Senses – With Ice Cream

Calling all future flavor developers and taste testers! Do you have a school-aged kiddo who’s eager to learn new things this summer and just happens to love ice cream? We know at-home learning isn’t always easy, and parents are looking for ways to make education fun for everyone. When ice cream is involved, you’ll be amazed at how interested the kids get (and how enjoyable it can be for mom and dad, too)! Kristin in Columbus has you covered with this awesome activity that’ll have them learning about taste and smell – senses that our in-house flavor developers rely on when crafting delicious flavors for all to enjoy. The best part? A chance to sample all your favorite Hudsonville flavors and test your smarts!

3. Explore Your Neighborhood

As the days get longer and the nights get warmer, summer is the perfect time to enjoy the benefits of the outdoors with your family. Hit the sidewalks, a local trail or the open road for an adventurous walk or bike ride around your neighborhood – it’s a special time to connect with your kids and help them burn off excess energy. Amanda from Indianapolis Moms says her family always loves to end their after-dinner bike rides with a scoop of their favorite Hudsonville Ice Cream flavors – a tradition she hopes her son will one day continue with his own family.

4. Get Shakin’

Milkshakes are an easy and delicious way to indulge in a cool summer treat, and are always a crowd-pleaser, no matter which Hudsonville flavor you choose! Nicole of Detroit Moms likes to make shakes for her family with Hudsonville’s Dairy Free Peanut Butter Truffle flavor, a splash of oat milk and topped with a dollop of peanut butter. Served in a mason jar with a fun or fancy straw, these diner-inspired classics are ultra-customizable and sure to go fast.

5. Finish the Day on a Sweet Note

After a long day spent in the sun, there’s nothing better than winding down in the evening with a scoop of your favorite flavor surrounded by family. Kait from Indianapolis Moms has the best advice: Always have a box of ice cream cones and your favorite Hudsonville flavors stocked in your kitchen! This way you can ensure you always end those warm summer nights on a sweet note, whether it’s a special occasion or just time spent together.
