Scrolling through Pinterest trying to find the perfect way to make your kid’s birthday extra special this year?

Don’t stress!

Whether planning parties is your thing or the idea of deciding on a theme, gathering all the goodies and sending out invitations is enough to make you say “HELP!”, we’re sharing five fun and simple ways to make your little one’s birthday a special occasion they’ll never forget.

MAKE A SUPER SWEET BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST

Every kid wishes they could eat ice cream for breakfast. So skip the milk and cereal, and make this an excuse to whip up a special treat that makes their day start off sweet.

Have the birthday boy or girl choose the menu for breakfast that morning and make nothing off limits! Here are a few recipes you can try at home that can be easily customized to include their favorite flavors.

For even more birthday breakfast inspo, check out this recipe from The Everyday Warrior or make waffle ice cream sandwiches dipped in their favorite cereal.

PLAN A BIRTHDAY PRESENT SCAVENGER HUNT

Continue the birthday fun by scattering sweet surprises around the house and give your kiddo clues to find each one. To make the scavenger hunt unique each year, base the number of clues on how old they’re turning. Have the scavenger hunt end at the kitchen table and enjoy cake and ice cream while they unwrap their presents.

USE A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY PLATE

While you could buy a special plate (there’s nothing wrong with that!), decorating one together can be a fun activity that gets your kids even more excited as they count down to their big day.

This super simple idea is something that can easily turn into an annual tradition for each member of the family! Make this plate specifically for “cake and ice cream” when it’s time to sing Happy Birthday and blow out the candles.

SHOW THEM SOME BIRTHDAY LOVE

There are so many ways to say “I love you!” Here are a few creative things you can do to show your kids just how much they’re loved. Create a “what we love about you” jar with pieces of paper describing their best qualities or special memories you’ve made together throughout the year. Make it even more special by having family members take turns sharing something they love about the birthday boy or girl during dinner.

CAPTURE THE MOMENT WITH A BIRTHDAY INTERVIEW

With each year comes new likes, friends and experiences you won’t want to forget. Check out Pinterest for some fun interview templates and have fun asking your child the following questions to freeze this special moment of their life in time. This will give each of you something to look back on.

  • How old are you?
  • What’s your best memory from being (insert age)?
  • What’s the best thing about turning (insert age)?
  • What do you want to be when you grow up?
  • What’s your favorite thing to do?
  • Where’s your favorite place to go?
  • The thing I’m best at is (fill in the blank).
  • Who are your friends?
  • What’s your favorite movie?
  • What’s your favorite song?
  • What’s your favorite food?
  • What’s your favorite color?

Of course, these are just suggestions. Make it your own by getting the whole family involved in coming up with more interesting questions to ask the birthday boy or girl.

Take a picture of your child holding up their answers. If you’re feeling even more creative, record a video of their responses to capture all the giggles, facial expressions and more! What could be sweeter than that?

Birthdays are already sweet, but traditions like these make them even sweeter. What are some birthday traditions that your family looks forward to each year?
