5 TIPS FOR HOSTING A HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING AT HOME
We love this time of year for many reasons, and even though some of our favorite winter activities may not be in the cards this year, there’s one tradition even the Grinch can’t cancel—an old-fashioned holiday tree lighting.
Don’t let scaled-back celebrations of 2020 get you down. Instead of heading out to a crowded holiday tree lighting at the state capitol or downtown hot spot, bring the party to your living room! Here are 5 tips for hosting your own holiday tree lighting at home and starting the season off right.
The Tree, Of Course!
Whether you chopped it down yourself, or it comes in multiple pieces in a box (we don’t judge) you’ll need the perfect tree in the perfect spot. And if you can’t fit a 58-foot tall blue spruce in your living room, a tabletop tree will do just fine. After all, Charlie Brown’s tree wasn’t much to brag about, but he loved it just the same.
All of the Lights
If you’re looking to get things up and running quickly, you can’t go wrong with a pre-lit tree. But, if you’re a little more traditional and can’t imagine the holidays without untangling a seemingly never-ending string of lights, then you do you. Just make sure they’re big, bright and beautiful and you’ll have the neighborhood admiring your holiday spirit before you know it. Pro-tip: plug the lights in and test them before you hang them to avoid extreme frustration.
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Once you’ve made room for your tree, secured the most spectacular string of lights, it’s time to set the mood. It seems like holiday music hits radio waves earlier and earlier every year. Whether you’re in the holiday spirit all year long, or like to wait until after Thanksgiving, find a record, CD or playlist that gets you singing and turn it up! As one wise elf once said, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”
Don’t Forget Dessert!
You didn’t seriously think we’d overlook the sweets, did you? No way! Consider going all-in on our Limited Edition Peppermint Stick and recreate a recipe from our free holiday recipe e-book, or simply enjoy a two-scoop sundae with your favorite ice cream flavor. Either way, don’t be afraid to treat yourself!
Holiday Spirit? Check.
This one is all you. It can be tough to get in the holiday mood during such a crazy year, but as the saying goes, it’s not about how you start, but how you finish. So, let’s end the year on a positive note! Grab that ugly Christmas sweater, bust out your favorite mug for hot cocoa (we’ll take ours with a scoop of ice cream), and cozy up for a night at your very own tree lighting.
Oh, one last step. Light up the tree! Don’t let all your hard work go to waste.
