6 WAYS TO DIG INTO NATIONAL ICE CREAM MONTH
Everyone has a favorite time of year, and it’s probably no surprise to you, but we love summer. It’s hot and sunny, you can lounge outside in swimsuits and sandals, and it’s the best time to eat all of our favorite ice cream flavors.
You really don’t need an excuse to treat yourself to scoop after scoop of great ice cream during this time of year, but if you’re looking for a reason to celebrate, you’ll love this: July is National Ice Cream Month, and it’s a month filled with the best ice cream holidays too. That’s right – there are multiple! There’s a whole month packed with perfect ice cream moments to make this summer super sweet.
Based on these holidays, we picked six outstanding ways for you to dig into National Ice Cream Month – from favorite flavors to serving suggestions. Mark your calendar with a few of your favorites for an undeniably delicious summer month you’ll hope never ends.
July 1: National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day
You know we love any opportunity to get creative, so this holiday is one of our favorites. Our flavor development team is always coming up with an amazing new combination of flavors, so naturally, we can’t overlook National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day. Did you know we make more than 50 flavors? Use this mini holiday to try something new – like our Limited Edition Blueberry Cobbler or American Fireworks flavors – or sample something from our Dairy Free or Extra Indulgent pint lineups.
July 7: National Strawberry Sundae Day
Ice cream and strawberries can be a perfect summer pairing, especially in the Midwest where berry farms are open for picking! While strawberry season is winding down by July 7, any strawberries you might have on hand can be devoured as part of National Strawberry Sundae Day. Just top your favorite Hudsonville flavor with strawberries – whether you’re adding a handful of fresh-cut berries or a homemade sauce (or both!), you can’t go wrong. And, if you really want to go all-in on the berry theme, use our Scoop Locator to find a carton of our Strawberry Cheesecake flavor at your nearest grocery store. We promise it’ll be “berry” good!
July 8: National Freezer Pop Day
Hear us out – freezer pops, but make them ice cream based. We’re talking about an upgrade on those icy freezer pops you’d eat when you were cooling off after a long day of playing outside as a kid. Just pick your favorite flavor of Hudsonville Ice Cream and use popsicle molds or even paper cups to shape your ice cream pops. Want something even simpler? Using one of our pint flavors, test out this recipe for 10-minute ice cream pops. You can slice the pints, dip the slices in chocolate and freeze for a quick and easy option the whole family will love.
July 19: National Ice Cream Day
Trivia time: National Ice Cream Day hasn’t always been a holiday. Who declared our favorite food an official holiday, and in what year?
National Ice Cream Day has been celebrated on the third Sunday of each July since 1984, when President Ronald Reagan officially honored ice cream with its very own day. This is one celebration we’ll never miss, but we recommend keeping it super simple: Add a couple scoops of your favorite flavor to a cone, and enjoy your ice cream on the go during the peak of the summer season. Feeling a little more ambitious? Check out one of our incredible ice cream recipes for a new twist on everybody’s favorite summer dessert.
July 23: National Vanilla Ice Cream Day
If you’re going to go with vanilla, make sure it’s the best. That’s something we pride ourselves on, with three incredible vanilla options for you to choose from. The classic Creamery Blend Vanilla is the creamiest, most delicious vanilla on the block. But don’t count out our French Vanilla – it’s a winner, literally, claiming the title of “World’s Best” at the World Dairy Expo. Need something simple but significant? Look no further than Vanilla Bean. No matter which vanilla you choose, you can’t go wrong!
July 25: National Hot Fudge Sundae Day
National Hot Fudge Sundae Day is when we put the cherry on top of the best month of the year. Originally created in 1906 right here in the United States, hot fudge has been one of the best ice cream toppings around for more than a century. You can use any ice cream you want for a hot fudge sundae, but we might recommend packing an extra punch in your bowl with an option like Mackinac Island Fudge for some extra chocolatey goodness in each bite.
If you’re still not sure of the best way to celebrate National Ice Cream Month, we’ve got a bonus suggestion: Ice cream prizes! Our Sweetest Summer Ever Sweepstakes continues all month long, Each week, we’ll pick new winners for free ice cream, prize kits to make the most of your summer fun and more.
