The leaves are starting to change, fun-sized candy is taking over store shelves and our Instagram feeds are filled with people posing for pictures at their local pumpkin patch. You know what that means—Halloween is almost here!

Continue reading for ideas on how to host a Pinterest-worthy pumpkin carving party. Plus, learn how you can show off your decorating skills for the chance to win a sweet surprise! We even have some sample designs and printable stencils you can use for inspiration.

Whether you’re into painting pumpkins or carving them, we want to see what you can do. Simply choose one of the three entry categories listed below and let your creativity shine (literally)!

Snap a picture of your pumpkin and share it with us on social media by posting it to our Facebook Page or tagging us on Instagram. We’ll randomly select 3 lucky winners on October 31 at 9 AM Eastern.

  1. Paint a pumpkin. Looking for something simple to do with your little ones? Pick up some mini pumpkins for your mini-me and have them paint each one like a scoop of their favorite ice cream. Stack them on top of each other and hot glue an ice cream cone on top.
  2. Use our printable stencil. Simple yet sweet, this idea is great for kids (or anyone who’s still a kid at heart). Click here to download a pumpkin carving stencil you can print at home.
  3. Make your own “ice scream” inspired design. The possibilities are endless! Not sure what to do? Pop over to Pinterest for some inspiration and let your imagination flow. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

There’s something special about coming home from the pumpkin patch and gathering around the table to transform your pumpkin into a piece of art. From picking out the perfect design to scooping out the seeds and baking them in the oven, and turning off all the lights to admire the candlelit glow of your pumpkin for the first time, it’s no wonder why so many people look forward to this favorite fall tradition.

To help you make this year’s pumpkin carving party one your friends and family will never forget, here are four ideas that are scary sweet and stress-free.

First things first! Have guests bring their own pumpkin, but make sure to gather all the supplies they’ll need to decorate them.

This means picking up enough carving tools for everyone to use. Here are some other items to consider:

  • permanent markers
  • paint/paintbrushes
  • metal cookie cutters
  • decorative add-ons like gems/jewels

Since pumpkin carving can get messy, think about hosting this part of the party on your patio. If weather doesn’t permit for the party to be outside, purchase a plastic tablecloth with a fun and festive print to make cleanup a breeze. Don’t forget to set out a large bowl for the pumpkin seeds! In keeping with the Halloween theme, consider using a candy bucket, cauldron or harvest-chic tin.

Give guests something to sink their teeth into with a menu that’s inspired by the flavors of fall — chili anyone? Or, encourage everyone to bring a Halloween or pumpkin-themed dish to pass. This could be as simple as cheese sticks that look like ghosts or mandarin oranges made to look like jack-o-lanterns.

Don’t forget about dessert! While there are lots of festive treats to choose from, we love the idea of hosting an “ice scream” sundae bar. Decorate the table with seasonal décor, like pumpkins, fall corn or cobwebs, and provide guests with lots of fun toppings to choose from—candy eyeballs, strawberry syrup and candy corn are all great choices! Be sure to check out this post for even more fun fall treats.

Crank up the tunes and have a Halloween dance party with songs like:

  • Monster Mash
  • Ghostbusters
  • I Put a Spell on You
  • The Purple People Eater
  • Werewolves of London
  • Dance of the Macabre

Or, play some 0f the following films (just to name a few) in the background to keep everyone entertained:

  • It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
  • Hocus Pocus
  • Harry Potter
  • Casper
  • Adams Family
  • Double Double Toil and Trouble
  • Halloween Town
  • Coco
  • Haunted Mansion
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Beetlejuice

Once everyone’s creations are complete, offer awards to your guests with a contest of your own! Hand out prizes for the cutest pumpkin, funniest face or most original design.

There you have it! Four simple ideas for hosting an unforgettable pumpkin carving party. Do you have any tips to add to the list? We’d love to hear them!
