HOW WE CELEBRATED NATIONAL ICE CREAM MONTH

July 28, 2020

July is the perfect summer month for a lot of reasons. For one, it’s peak summer! This means all the best activities: Lounging outside in our swimsuits, hitting the trails on bikes or the water on kayaks, staying up late to enjoy the long, hot summer days.

But let’s be honest, the real reason July outshines all other months is because it’s National Ice Cream Month, which means enjoying ice cream every day. With 6 national holidays devoted just to ice cream and more than 50 flavors to choose from, we packed this month full of the best ways to treat ourselves. From delicious recipes, family fun activities and more, see how we made this National Ice Cream Month one to remember!

No baking? No problem.

We couldn’t let the month go by without celebrating another awesome holiday – National Blueberry Month! Since we brought back our Limited Edition Blueberry Cobbler flavor, Sarah at the Chef Next Door came up with these cool No-Bake Blueberry Cobbler Ice Cream Bars to help us fit the best tastes of summer into one easy dessert.

If you’re looking for something a little more customizable, Lauren at Lake Shore Lady has you covered. Crush some cookies, break out your favorite Hudsonville Ice Cream flavor, and get your toppings ready for these Individual Ice Cream Pies. Perfect for a socially distanced gathering with friends, or a cozy night at home with the fam! You can top your ice cream pie with whatever your heart desires, so everyone gets something sweet to match their taste buds.

Now the kids are involved

Sometimes super simple activities are the name of the game, but that doesn’t mean you should forget the ice cream. Kait from Indianapolis Mom enlisted her kiddos’ help in the kitchen and combined three classic ingredients – ice cream, brownies and hot fudge – for a bite-sized dessert the whole family can sink their teeth into. Just sandwich your flavor of choice between two brownie bites and drizzle a little hot fudge on top. It might be messy, but let’s be real – that’s part of the fun.

Pop to it!

Summer fun is usually on-the-go, which means it’s hard to sit down with a bowl and a spoon and just chill. That’s why these Perfect Ice Cream Pops from Milwaukee Mom are the recipe you’ve been waiting for, especially if you’re looking for a way to make ice cream and summer fruits fit into one easy option. A couple scoops of ice cream blended with a few cups of in-season fruit and milk make these pops come together just right. The hardest part? Waiting for them to freeze so you can take that first sweet bite.

Sweet memories at home

We’re staying closer to home this summer than we ever have before, but when we’re stocked up on activities and flavors we love, staying home is much easier. Amanda at Detroit Mom planned a couple fun activities for her family that reminded her of her own childhood, from cooling off in a kiddie pool in the backyard to decorating the sidewalk out front with a splash of colorful chalk. And of course, the entire family enjoyed a cone while spending time together.

If you’ve moved away from your childhood home and miss the taste of Hudsonville Ice Cream, you’re in luck, since we made some of our flavors available in special collections in our online shop. These are delivered right to your door, still frozen and ready to eat – and remind you of the best tastes of your childhood. These collections are perfect for sharing, but feel free to keep yours all to yourself.

We even celebrated a few birthdays from home, with patriotic recipes to honor America’s birthday on July 4, and a special video message for the city of Detroit, since we couldn’t gather for our annual birthday celebration.

There’s still plenty of summer left, and we’re ready to make the most of it, with a little ice cream along the way!
