This summer has been one to remember, and it’s not over yet!  Even though we’ve been staying a little closer to home, we’re still soaking up the sunny days with our family and friends and making special memories during our favorite season!

To keep our summer days a little sweeter, we’ve been exploring different ways to enjoy ice cream – an essential summertime staple. Sure, ice cream is delicious simply scooped in a bowl or a cone, but our friends had some suggestions for ways to make our desserts stand out a little more.

The best part? These five ways we’re enjoying ice cream right now are easy to do at home and best shared with people you love (even while maintaining safe distancing)! Pick one or two of these ideas or challenge yourself to all five!

Snap, Crackle, Pop!

A little spin on a classic treat, Anna Baun at A Lily Love Affair has crafted delectable Rice Krispies Ice Cream Sandwiches. Customize your sandwiches by using your favorite Hudsonville Ice Cream flavor! (Anna’s pick – Traverse City Cherry Fudge.) With four simple ingredients, this recipe is perfect for a simple night outdoors with the family.

Hold the Pepperoni

This recipe brings new meaning to pizza night! Any way you slice it, this creative Ice Cream Pizza dessert by Kylee at Kylee’s Kitchen will have you fighting over the last piece. By combining a few simple ingredients, including our Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream, grated white chocolate and red candy melts, this dessert looks deceiving – and tastes delicious.

Family Fun Night

With more time spent at home this summer than usual, adding in a fun activity for the kiddos can break up the all-familiar evening routine. Our friend Elissa at Cincinnati Mom recently had a family fun night, topping a homemade cobbler with scoops of ice cream with the help of her daughter. Find any activity small hands can help with – a cobbler is great, but so is a milkshake! – and you can spend time chatting about what other parts of the day were the sweetest.

Giving Back

Essential workers deserve all the recognition for their tireless efforts to keep our communities safe, especially this year. Stephanie at Columbus Moms took some inspo from our Random Acts of Ice Cream program and popped up an ice cream stand in her yard to honor heroes in her neighborhood. Complete with masks, gloves and safe social distancing, this gathering made Stephanie’s neighbors feel appreciated for their work.

Know an essential worker who deserves something sweet? We’re still accepting nominations for a chance to have ice cream shipped straight to their door to show your gratitude.

Let’s Make it a Fiesta

Any dish can be an ice cream dish if you put your mind to it! Lauren Nolan at Lake Shore Lady crafted these heavenly Ice Cream Nachos, and we’re sold. Break up some waffle cone pieces, scoop your favorite ice cream flavors, and top everything with fruit, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Any topping will do. Have your fam pitch in on this nacho platter so everyone gets a bite of something they love. It’s super simple and sharable, and makes any evening feel like a party.
